Singleton Clamp & Partners began life as Denis Wilson & Partners, which was founded in 1979. Under the guidance of the founding partnership of Denis Wilson, Brian Clamp, Bob Singleton and Peter Tomsett, DWP grew to around 100 staff located at offices in London, Surrey and Worcester.

Full equity in the DWP business was released gradually in an agreed management buy-out process, which was completed around 1991, when the founding partners of DWP continued as Singleton Clamp & Partners.

Since 1991, SCP has operated from offices in London and Manchester. Over this period, the original partners have mostly either retired or become Consultants such that the business is now run principally from Manchester under the Directorship of Bill Booker and David Roberts. The London office is run from Palmers Green by Peter Prutton. All the current principals of the firm have been together since their DWP days.

Thus, the firm can draw on over 25 years of experience, during which time, considerable changes have evolved in transport planning. Equally important is the valuable experience we have gained from working with a wide range of clients, many of which have remained with us since our DWP days. Historically, the type of work the firm undertook under the DWP banner is typified by the following projects:

  • Meadowhall Shopping Centre, Sheffield
  • Terminal 5 Heathrow, first time round for British Airways
  • Donnington Racing Circuit then proposed as a Grand Prix Venue
  • Thorpe Water Park, Surrey
  • Aztec West, Bristol
  • Sainsbury's Superstores.
  • Major housing, industrial and leisure schemes

SCP continues the tradition with an ability to progress the same type and scale of development. Our presence in the NW of England started in the early 1980's when we serviced the projects from London.

Our clientele grew steadily to 1991 when we opened our Manchester Office. From then, the rate of growth in our clientele has accelerated reflecting a clear endorsement by clients of our commitment to the NW where resulting client loyalty has been very strong. This strength has enabled us to expand our clientele throughout the north and we are now accepting more challenges in the south, assisted by our London Office.

Historically, SCP was founded on its transportation services. More recently, our Design Section was set up to provide the design input to the projects generated by the Transportation Section. Now it is resourced to provide an independent design and implementation role in a wide variety of projects, both large and small. The design services now compliment our established transportation services as follows:

  • Transport assessments.
  • Land use-transportation studies.
  • Moving image micro-simulation modelling
  • Traffic management and control measures
  • Traffic accident investigations.
  • Traffic noise and environmental studies.
  • Traffic calming.
  • Car parking assessments.
  • HGV service area assessments.
  • Green travel plans.
  • Vehicle and pedestrian modelling.
  • Swept-path analysis of vehicles.
  • Investigation, preparation and presentation of expert evidence at Planning Appeals, Tribunals, Structure Plan EIP's, Local Plan Inquiries, Road Inquiries etc...
  • Highway link and junction design
  • Car parking and servicing layouts
  • Street lighting and signing
  • Traffic calming
  • Safety audits
  • Road closures and diversions
  • Foul and surface water drainage including pumping and flood control.

Singleton Clamp & Partners have over 25 years experience in Transportation Planning and Infrastructure Engineering. We have an enviable reputation of providing effective and commercially aware advice in the planning and implementation of all types of projects ranging in scale from the smallest involving private individuals up to the largest involving internationally known companies as well as Central and Local Government.

Among the list of clients in the private sector whom we have advised are household names in the fields of institutional investment, banking, commerce, retailing, house building and leisure. In the public sector many authorities have been advised on aspects such as highway planning and design, traffic management, development control, car parking etc...

We have a healthy and longstanding professional association with the Planning Bar, solicitors, planning and environmental consultants, developers, contractors and architects.   As such, we are experienced in liaising with, and coordinating, multi-disciplinary teams of experts.

We are also continuously engaged in negotiations with local planning and highway authorities throughout the UK and are therefore fully conversant with their development-control, planning and highway requirements and procedures.

We work in all fields of land-based development and compete exceptionally well with our more famous rivals.

Principally, our work comprises the identification and accommodation of the transport implications of development. Historically, this has been confined to the traffic impact of development, but nowadays we have to embrace assessments of all travel modes to satisfy the criteria for sustainable development and travel patterns.

Commissions are mostly achieved by repeat business from an established network of developers, house builders, architects, planners, solicitors and the Planning Bar, where we have an enviable reputation for our expertise at public inquiries and tribunals etc.

The only advertising we subscribe to is in the 'Planning Magazine.' This is to maintain our name visible to the related professional readership of this popular publication. In addition, we support charities and beneficial social events.
